Race Report Donington Park GP, September 25th

Spa winner Michael Clark lined up on pole in his Valour Radical RXC, pipping Silverstone winner James Abbott in his Revolution A-One 500SC.

Abbott was ahead of Richard Morris and Sir Chris Hoy in their similar 500SCs, ahead of Jim Booth in the Radical SR10. Jim had made a transatlantic journey to join the SPC grid after starring on his series debut at Spa.

The first 20 min sprint race featured a diverse grid of 16 cars competing on the 2.5 mile Donington Grand Prix layout.  Clark made a tardy start with Abbott surging into the lead for round seven of the 2022 Cup.  Clark was soon back on the pace, with a 1.5s gap to the leader after three laps.  Morris was up to third, heading Hoy and Booth. Sadly, with just two laps to go he had to pit, promoting Hoy to third overall Cup car and second in the Revolution class.

The respective class winners were Abbott and Clark, with Hoy and Booth taking the runner-up spots in each category.

Revolution Trophy Winner: James Abbott

Race two had Clark and Morris in the top two grid spots, with Abbott having more work to do from the third row of the grid.  It was Hoy who sprinted into the lead after a stunning start, with Clark fending off Morris and Abbott. On lap two, Clark made a stellar move to regain top spot, with Abbott slipping past Hoy and Morris to move into second. Unfortunately, Abbott hit trouble a lap later, leaving Clark in a comfortable class lead over Hoy, Morris and Booth. In the Revolution class, a gold medal for Hoy was denied when he slowed with two laps to go, giving Morris a class win to compensate for his bad luck in race one. Hoy held on to take second.
